This scarf shows recordings of several over-8 magnitude earthquakes. The print features seismograph and directional up-down movement of some of the Earth's largest earthquakes, including the 2013 Amberly New Zealand, 8.4 magnitude 2012 South Sumatra, 8.0 magnitude 1966 Peru, 8.2 magnitude 2014 and 1985 Chile, 8.1 magnitude 1985 Michoacan Mexico, 8.0 magnitude Tokachi-oki 2003 and 9.0 magnitude 2015 Honshu Japan earthquakes. Background pattern is the largest earthquakes ever recorded: the 9.5 magnitude 1960 Chilean earthquake that generated devastating tsunami with waves that reached 25m/82 feet in height in Chile and waves that reached across the Pacific.

Data on the vertical movement was selected from the Global Seismograph Network and more information on the 1960 earthquake can be found at NOAA's Science on a Sphere (https://sos.noaa.gov/Datasets/dataset.php?id=613).
