As early as 1996, Nike first thought of a sneaker that should have two characteristics: and should harmonize feet and shoes more, i.e. the fit was paramount - in addition, the sneakers should have the same comfort as Slippers on. The then shoe developer Tobie Hatfield committed himself to this project. The biggest hurdle was finding an ideal upper for the Nike slipper. Hatfield was looking for a lighter alternative to neoprene. The medical industry demanded spacer mesh for the desired breathability and flexibility - the T-shirt for the foot was born. What makes this iteration of the Air Presto so characteristic are the colored boxes and the icons depicted.
